The first cry of the revolution in Pampanga
The first cry of the revolution in Pampanga happened in Bacolor 117 years ago today, on June 4, 1898 at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios de Bacolor (now DHVTSU).
Even the town's poets, zarzuelistas and artists like Felix Galura, Alvaro Panopio and Paulino Lirag took up arms against the Spaniards and the pro-Spanish Cazadores and Macabebes.
They burned the Casa Real (provincial capitol, since the capital of Pampanga at the time was still Bacolor). Poet Mariano Proceso Pabalan Byron (1862-1904) immortalized the event by writing the play "Apat ya ing Junio" (Fourth of June), about a Kapampangan girl who put on men's clothes to fight alongside her Katipunan boyfriend.
