Powerhouse Journey : Regina Building - Escolta

Dahil madaming mga neo classical building na makikita sa Escolta ay naisipang kung ibreakdown ito para naman di siya magulo tignan sa aking pahina.

Simulan natin ang paglalakbay sa mula sa Escolta, pero bago yun anu nga ba ang nagtatago sa pangalang Escolta? Ayun sa kaysayan, ang Escolta ay  mula sa salitang escoltar (verbo transitivo; a transitive verb) exists in the Spanish language which means "to escort" and escolta means "body guard". A quick visit to the Images of Asia site reveal that this thoroughfare was initially used by the British Commodore as a convoy route during the years 1762 to 1764.

Trivia: Isa ang Escolta na itinuturing shopping capital ng bansa dahil dito matatagpuan ang ilan sa mga sikat na binilihan noong panahon ng mga Americano, ilan sa mga sikat na shopping centre ay ang La Estrella del Norte at Puerta del Sol.

The Beaux-Arts Of Regina Building

Ang Regina Building ay matatagpuan sa may tabi ng Escolta St at ng William Burke, itinatayo ang gusaling ito noong 1915.

Ayon sa kaysaysayan ang gusaling ito ay muling dinesenyo ng sikat na si Andres Luna de San Pedro noong 1920's.

This building is located at Muelle del Banco Nacional (north bank of the Pasig River) about a block away from the MacArthur (Santa Cruz) Bridge."
