Powerhouse Journey : Plaza Lacson (formerly Plaza Goiti)
Ang ikaanim na destinasyon na aming pinuntahan ay ang Plaza Lacson (formerly Plaza Goiti)
Pagkatapos ng isang masayang picturuan,kwentuhan at syempre magpasalamat na rin kay Papa Jesus para sa masayang at ligtas na powerhouse walk namin.At saan pa nga ba kami tutungo kungdi sa katabing lugar ng simbahan ang isa rin sa sikat at historial place din sa kamaynilaan ang Plaza Lacson ang dating kilala sa tawag na Plaza Goiti.

Pero bago tayo magsimula kilalanin muna natin si Goiti at Lacson.
Una sinu nga ba si Goiti?
Martin de Goiti, tumulong kay Miguel Lopez De Legazpi sa paggalugad at founder ng Maynila.
Sinu naman ba si Lacson?
Si Arsenio Lacson ay isang dating magaling na manlalaro ng soccer mula sa Ateneo de Manila University,isa din siyang amatuer boxer, isang mamahayag at siya lang naman din ang isa sa mga magaling na Mayor noon ng Maynila.

Sa kaliwang bahagi naman ng statue ni dating Mayor Lacson ang sikat na LRT Carriedo Station.

Plaza Fair isa sa mga sikat na pamilihan noong dekada 70's ngunit ngaun ang Shopping Centre na ito ay nagsara na.
| Sign Post: By the way the 1st school establish in the Plaza Goiti was the Adamson University pero bago matawag na Adamson University ang dating pangalan nito ay Adamson School of Industrial Chemistry.
| Sign Post: Isa pa sa mga sikat na unibersidad sa Plaza Goiti ang Far Eastern Aeronautics School na itinayo noong 1946 sa ngaun mas kilala na ito sa tawag na FEATI University.
| Sign Post: Isa rin sa mga interesting trivia dito sa Plaza Goiti ay dito nagsimula at itinayo ang isa sa mga sikat na funeral parlor sa Pilipinas ang La Funeria.
Don Roman Santos y Rodriguez founded Prudential Bank. The building named after him still stands across from Plaza Goiti.
.In the 1945 Battle of Manila only three out of the five floors are finished when the Japanese bombed the city, luckily the building survived and was finished in 1950’s.The building was used by Prudential Bank as its headquarters and the Monte de Piedad, then the South Super Mart, a shopping mall. When the mall closed, BPI took the building, as it is today.

Wow! I didn't know there's Plaza Lacson.. Sorry naman. Though, he's not that really known, I know he got something precious contributions to the Philippine history and to his alma mater. Nice post here. Sarap din magbasa ng mga tagalog blogs. =)

ReplyDeleteI really appreciate your posting of photos and info of Manila's unknown sections.....at the same time I feel sad seeing how neglected most are. :( Not to boast but I just can't help to compare how the train stations here built 80 years ago looks better :(

ReplyDeletePlaza Goiti/Lacson needs a facial. And Plaza Fair needs to be renovated. Natatakot ako dumaan sa ilalim ng shade ng mall na yan, feel ko may malalaglag sa ulo ko any moment. Gosh, I miss this place.

ReplyDeletegaling! feeling ko nakasama na ako sa pamamasyal mo. hehe.. di ako madalas sa manila. lagi ko ngang biro, yaw ko pumunta sa manila maliligaw ako. pero pramis, maliligaw tlga ako jan. hanggang cubao lang ako e. :)
