Philippines Breaks Own Earth Hour Record

Its hard to explain the full details of what happening in the Earth Hour but dont worry i will share to some of the precious picture moments.

What is Earth Hour and how its started? According to the WWF in March 2007, WWF-Australia inspired Sydney residents to show their support for action on climate change by switching off their lights for an hour. The 60-minute light-out event,named Earth Hour,showed that everyone,from children to CEOs and politicians,has the power to change the world they live in. In Sydney,almost 2.2 million individuals and more than 2,000 businesses turned their lights off out for one hour to take a stand against climate change.

In 2008, the plan was to take Earth Hour to the rest of Australia.But it wasn't long before 35 countries,including Philippines,agreed to be part of the event. It said something compelling to the world;that the climate change challenges facing our planet are so significant that change need to be global.

With the invitation to 'switch off' extended to everyone, Earth Hour quickly become an annual global event. It is scheduled on the last Saturday of every March - closely coinciding with the equinox to ensure most cities are in darkness as it rolled out around the Earth.

A total of 6,525 cities, towns, provinces and municipalities in 150 countries and territories joined this year’s Earth Hour, the highest level so far.

Record breaker:

        World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), organizer of Earth Hour, said a total of 1,671 towns, cities, provinces and municipalities in the Philippines joined the one-hour switch-off last March 31.

This is higher than the 1,661 areas recorded last year.
