Ito na ang isa sa mga sikat na lumang bahay namakikita sa may hilera ng Hidalgo St, Quiapo, Maynila.

Isa sa mga dinarayong lumang-bahay ang Bahay Nakpil-Bautista ng mga tao sa may kamaynilaan.

Sinu nga ba si Dr. Ariston Bautista?

Dr. Ariston Bautista is fellow Propagandist and friend of Philippine National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. He risked arrest by distributing Rizal’s forbidden novels. Dr. Baustista developed a cure for cholera similar to paregoric acid.

Sinu naman si Julio Nakpil?

Julio Nakpil ( Born on May 22 1867 - 2 November 1960) was a Philippine composer who also fought in the Philippine Revolution.

During the Philippine Revolution

Julio served as a commander for revolutionary troops in the northern Philippines under Andrés Bonifacio.

Many of Julio's compositions during this time were inspired directly by the Revolution. Julio also composed a candidate for the Philippine national anthem preferred by Bonifacio but was ultimately rejected for Lupang Hinirang. After Emilio Aguinaldo allegedly ordered Bonifacio executed, Nakpil claimed to have received threats on his own life as well as that of General Antonio Luna, the latter ending up betrayed and executed by Aguinaldo's men.

Gregoria de Jesus – Second wife of Andres Bonifacio who helped organize the women’s chapter of the Katipunan. After Bonifacio’s death, she married Julio Nakpil with whom she had six children.

According to the historian, Bahay Nakpil-Bautista is an early twentieth-century house in Quiapo that has been made into a museum. It is both an architectural and historical attraction. It was built in 1914 by asuccessful physician, Dr. Ariston Bautista and his wife Petrona Nakpil. Having no children, they shared the house with Petrona's two brothers and their families. Bautista was a philanthropist and prominent figure in society who was deeply involved in the Philippine Revolution and was a good friend of José Rizal and Juan Luna.

One of the brothers who joined the couple in the house was Julio Nakpil, the Vice-President Supremo of the Katipunan. and his wife was Gregoria de Jesus, the young widow of Andres Bonifacio, who organized the women of the Katipunan to aid in the Revolution.

The architecture of the house itself is unique. It was designed by architect Arcadio Arellano in the classic bahay na bato style with detailing in turn-of-the-century Viennese Secession style done to complement the Viennese Secession furniture given to Dr. Bautista. The carvings, woodwork and grillwork are executed in the same abstracted, geometric lines that depict floral patterns.

Bahay Nakpil-Bautista is located on A. Bautista (formerly Barbosa) Street, perpendicular to Hidalgo Street opposite Quiapo Church. A. Bautista Street is parallel to Quezon Boulevard in Quiapo.
