Genre of your graphic illustration: I am not a graphic designer or illustrator, I am a painter.
Tell me something about yourself that people don’t know:
I have poor sense of taste or smell and also hard of hearing.
What is your current state of mind before we continue with the interview?
Relaxed, enjoying an espresso with milk.
When and how did you get your start in the industry?
I am a painter by default, I don’t know what else to do.
Did you go to school to study this genre?
Yes, I went to art schools for my bachelor and master degrees.
How did you discover your passion for art? Was it always something you knew you wanted to do?
I don’t think I ever discovered it, I think it was something that came inherently natural to me. But I started drawing because I was surrounded by family who all practiced certain forms of art and design.
How did you find your style? Has it changed since you started?
It’s not necessarily a style, it’s a depiction of how I see and want to remember the world. It hasn't changed much, but I think I’m constantly evolving as a painter/person/etc.
What was your first ever illustration of, do you still have it, if not where is it?
If you are talking about my first painting, I do. My mother has it.
Where do you get your ideas/inspiration from?
Like I said previously, I get my ideas and inspiration from my experiences and environment.
How did illustration/graphic design change your life?
If I wasn't an artist, I’d probably be a lawyer.
What are the pros and cons of being a graphic illustrator?
There are no cons in my life. I love what I do, I have a woman and family that loves me. What more can you ask for?
If you weren't a graphic artist/illustrator or a multimedia artist, what would you want to be? Why?
If I wasn't practicing art, I’d be a professor of art and design. That was my first job after graduate school and I enjoyed teaching.
Any project or exhibit you want to promote?
2015 is looking like it’ll be a good year for me. I’ll be working with Jonathan Sy from Gallery Big planning and executing two solo shows and a couple of group shows next year. I don’t have any set dates yet, and will inform you when a date is set. But my last show for 2014 will be at Artist Space at Ayala Museum in December.
What legacy will you leave?
I never think about a legacy. I don’t think it’s a conscious motivation or thought and empirically it’s not up to me. I just want to continue making my work till my old age.
How do you see yourself 20 or 30 years from now?
Happy.
