Glenn de Borja Vitor ay isang kaibigan mula sa mundo ng Heritage Conservation , nagkakilala kami ng taong ito noong ako'y dumalo sa isang Heritage Tour sa pangunguna ni Mr. Rence Chan. Habang nagtotour kami sa loob ng Metropolitan Theater napag-usapan namin ang iba't-ibang mga heritage sites mula sa Pilipinas hanggang sa ibang panig ng mundo, nakakalungkot lamang sapagkat kumpara sa ibang bansa mas buhay ang kanilang adbokasiya para sa heritage conservation, samantala sa ating bansa ay piling pili lamang ang binibigyan ng pansin. At ilan sa mga napag-usapan namin ay ang mga design ng mga ginagawang gusali sa Maynila, ikumpara namin ito noon at ngaun masasabi mo na may masaya mabuhay noon sapagkat interesting pa ang ilan sa mga itinatayong gusali kumpara ngaun na parang pare-parehas na lamang ang iyong nakikita.

Tell me something about yourself that people don't know: It takes me a very long time to conceptualize but can finish the design draft (3d perspectives) in a day

What is your current state of mind before we continue with the interview? Journeying

When and how did you get your start in the industry? After graduation, I started freelancing. And the rest as they say, is history haha

Did you go to school to study this genre? Yes

How did you discover your passion for art? Was it always something you knew you wanted to do? Ever since I was a child, I was always spellbound to old churches, paintings, and arts and crafts (art attack). And yes, this is exactly what I wanted to do

How do you interior design? First, a client sets a meeting. We meet. Discuss the Floor Plan, needs, likes, color preference etc. Then after that we visit the site, I will take pictures and measurements. Talk to the Building Admin (if condo project) for do’s and don’ts, design and construction guidelines, etc. Then comes the hardest part, designing. It will probably take me about a dozen cups of coffee and tea and cigarettes before I can actually start drafting. It is not that I don´t know what to do, but a lot of things going inside my head. So many ideas but the thing is, will she/he like it? Proposal finished then meeting again with client. If she/he likes it, I will proceed with the working drawings. Then comes the construction phase. I got used to the aromatic smell of paints because of this ahhaha! But what I hate most is the dust. See? Interior Design is not so glamorous after all ahhaha! While the construction is ongoing, I source furniture pieces and other decorative things. After all has been purchased and the construction is finished, Styling and accessorizing commence. The most fun but the most draining of all phases. And then, the project is finished!

How did you find your style? Has it changed since you started? I really don’t know, quite hard to answer that. My friends would always say, “Oh, the Glenn look” I don’t know what that means but I really like prints, textures, old and new pieces, with a touch of Europe and a tinge of Asia. And a splash of color!
Oh yes, it changed a lot. I’m more experimental and daring now hahaha!

What was your first ever illustration of, do you still have it, if not where is it? My first ever illustration was a church facade when I was studying in a primary catholic school. And I have no idea where on earth it is now, probably in the school archives hahha!

Where do you get your ideas/inspiration from? From travelling and reading but mostly from the internet

What are the pros and cons of being an Interior Designer? Pros: Because I’m a freelancer, I am the master of myself meaning I don’t have to wake up early for office; the design is purely mine; establish good relationship with the client. Most of my clients are now my friends. Cons: I do everything. No one to blame but myself if anything goes wrong. Pressure here and there.

If you weren't a graphic artist/illustrator or a multimedia artist, what would you want to be? Why? I would like to be a Lawyer. I don’t know, I find lawyers sexy hahaha!

What legacy will you leave? The true, the good, and the beautiful. World peace. Joke! I still don’t know. Right now as long as my clients are happy, I’m good.

How do you see yourself 20 or 30 yrs from now? I would probably have my own design and build and furniture company and backpacking all over the world. Or happily married in Spain ahhahahahha!

Don’t be afraid to try something new. Trend is something that is temporary. Design something that would still look new 10 years from now. And keep moving forward!
