POV : Isang Himala - The Musical Movie

It’s been quite a while since we had a Filipino musical film, and the excitement I felt upon learning about *Isang Himala* was beyond words. As a fan of musicals and the original *Himala* film by Nora Aunor, my expectations were sky-high—and this adaptation did not disappoint.

Story and Themes

*Isang Himala* goes beyond a story of faith or miracles; it’s a profound commentary on our society. Much like how Ricky Lee’s original screenplay reflected the nation in 1982, the musical version still holds a mirror up to today’s realities. Sadly, not much has changed—opportunists still exploit the weak, some people chase fame at all costs, and those in power often manipulate their positions for selfish gains. This is what makes *Himala* resonate across generations: its timeless and piercing relevance.

Cast and Performances

- David Ezra – I knew you were talented, but your "Confession" scene completely floored me! It was beyond what I expected; your performance was raw, intense, and deeply moving.

- Kakki Teodoro – What a powerhouse! The anger and frustration you displayed during the cabaret shutdown scene didn’t just stay on screen—it reached out and gripped the audience. Your fierceness and passion were unforgettable.

- Neomi Gonzales – Your hilltop scene was breathtaking. Despite the turmoil, your unwavering faith in God shone through. It was a poignant reminder of how belief can be a source of strength amidst adversity.

Direction and Production

Pepe Diokno, hats off to you! Your direction didn’t just tell a story; it created an immersive world where every character represented someone in society—from the outcasts to the gossips. The production value was impeccable. Who would’ve thought that a warehouse could be transformed into such a believable and dynamic setting? The lighting, set design, and overall visual execution transported me straight to the heart of Cupang.

Final Thoughts

Isang Himala isn’t just a film; it’s an experience—a wake-up call to examine the realities of our society. It’s a bold and beautiful reminder to think critically, act purposefully, and believe in what is right.

Bravo to the entire Isang Himala team! This is a film that everyone needs to see.
