HOT SPOT : Gian Paolo Nicdao

Who is Gian Paolo Nicdao?

Genre of your Photography: General Photography

Tell me something about yourself that people don't know: I eat or drink dairy extensive products on quite a regular basis but I'm actually lactose-intolerant.

What is your current state of mind before we continue with the interview? I'm doing my best to compose my thoughts well so this interview will turn out to be great! Haha!

How did you get started in photography? When I was younger, I was given this Looney Tunes film camera toy of sorts. I would go around the house, look through the viewfinder, and just click away. It appealed to me that what I can see, I can let other people see through the photos I take.

Did you go to school to study photography? How I wish. Iv'e always wanted to go to workshops and all but I do get to learn a lot from people's blogs.

What camera do you use? I use my Kodak Easyshare C183 point-and-shoot.

How would you characterize the style of your photography? Relies heavily on post-processing. Haha! My P&S has pretty limited options and I have this certain "feel" that I want every time I take photos. When I don't get that from the raw shot, then I post-processÉ which is most of the time haha.

Who or what influenced you to become a photographer? My Dad. He used to be a photography enthusiast and he had all these film SLR gear around the house. He'd take photos of us, have it developed and framed, then displayed on our living room. He was always able to capture a moment and preserve it for years and years.

How did you become a photographer? And When did your career start as a professional photographer? I don't see myself as a photographer per se, more as an enthusiast for photography. I'm not in that stage yet that I feel confident enough to call myself that.

What makes a good photographer in your opinion? When a photo captures an emotion, when it gives off a sense of feeling through the colors, the composition etc in a photo.

Do You Have A Favorite Walk Around Lens...If so What Is It? Sadly, the camera that I use doesn't enable me to have other lens but I have to say I'd like a 50mm one! I've tried shooting with DSLRs with 50mm and the photos are just wow.

Which one item of equipment would you say is the most important to you? Aside from the camera itself? Extra batteries and memory cards!

What is the most rewarding part of photography? When people see your photos and they like it. I know it shouldn't be about the recognition and all but there's something being fulfilled when you get that.

What is your most embarrassing experience as a photographer? None, so far haha!

How did photography change your life? I've learned to appreciate everything more. :-)

I know you been working with some of the famous and influential people in the country but may I ask whom do you wish/dream to work with and Why? It'll be huge to work with Mark Nicdao! People always ask me if I'm related to him and I always answer "I want to say yes." Haha!

What tips can you give to someone aspiring to be a professional photographer? They say that your first 100,000 shots are your worst. On that note, just keep on shooting and shooting and learning and learning. Surround yourself with people and things that inspire you. Keep the passion for photography alive.

What are the best tools for a beginner to learn on (besides the camera)? A tripod, definitely.

What are the pros and cons of being a photographer? PRO: You learn to appreciate everything. CON: People can judge you for your passion.

I know you like traveling for shoot or even for chill-out, can tell me where is the best place to be to do some shoot? and why there? Intramuros is a great place to shoot. Anywhere in Manila, to be honest. I'm not a Manila kid by birth but I've learned to love the hustle and bustle. MNL has so many moods, looks.

What goal are you working towards within your photography and when will you know you have reached it? I guess when companies ask for promotions, invite you to events etc. Let's be realistic here, that's a sign that you're already established of some sort.

What photographic organizations do you belong to? I'm a proud member of JaywalkersPH! :-)

If you weren't a photographer or a multimedia artist, what would you want to be? Why? I'd be a chef. Cooking has always been a frustration of mine haha!

How do you see yourself 20 or 30 yrs from now? Hopefully with a well-paying job that I love, in a nice loft or some condo with my loving family.

What legacy will you leave? I don't know that yet. I'm only 16 and I have no idea what the future holds for me but I'd like to think that I've made a difference on how people view young people; that we can be passionate about something.

Any final message? Its your time to shine.. Hey! Thanks for reading this interview and I do hope you found this interesting. Haha! And of course, thanks Sir Axl for making this possible :-)
